The Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department was established in the early 1950’s consisting of a handful of men dedicated to serve their community with a 1949 Ford pumper fire truck for equipment.

Through the 1960’s and 1970’s the fire department grew.  In the eighties under the guidance of Ewald Kwirant, Fire Chief for Wildwood the department grew to a membership of 25 men and women. The equipment also grew to include 4 Vehicles housed in a three bay fire hall.

With the training and equipment the County provides we serve the community of Wildwood as well as in our end of the County from Highway 22 in the east to Range Road 110 in the west.

As 2007 began the Wildwood Fire Department is evolving. We have said goodbye to some members that have moved from the area, as well we have welcomed new members to the department, including 3 junior members.  Rita Winfield has become the new Fire Chief. Our department now consists of 26 members, male and female.

There are 10 district fire departments in Yellowhead County, and we are District 9. For equipment, we have a Freightliner crew cab pumper which holds 950 gallons of water,

a Ford 550 rescue truck,

and a Ford tanker truck that carries 1500 gallons of water.

As well as firefighting equipment for both structure and wildland fires, we also provide rescue capabilities for motor vehicle accidents.

We carry air bags, heavy hydraulic jacks and the Jaws of Life,

as well as the automatic external defibulator and first aid materials.  We also have oxygen equipment and patient immobilization spine boards. We provide basic first responder first aid and assist the local ambulance authority when we are called upon.

With the mutual aid agreements we have in the County we also can call for assistance from our neighboring departments; Pembina Fire in the east and Niton Fire in the west. We provide assistance to them if needed.  Wildwood Fire Department is proud to serve Wildwood and surrounding area, with the assistance of Yellowhead County Fire Chief Cory Chegwyn and his staff.  With the busy Highway 16 running through our area, we also serve the people that travel through here.

Our meeting nights are the second Thursday of each month and our practice nights are the fourth Thursday of each month, with some special practices held as they come about.

We are always looking for new members to join. If anyone is interested in joining, please attend a meeting or practice or contact us and we will gladly answer or address your questions or concerns.
